The building, designed by its founders in 1443, was gradually expanded over the centuries by benefactors who wanted to accommodate more patients and adapt the site's facilities to advances in healthcare. Each era saw major changes. The 19th century was marked by significant medical advances, the creation of the Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction, and the first restoration projects on the medieval hospital. This period saw the modernisation of healthcare, the development of financial resources and the promotion of the Hôtel-Dieu's heritage.
